Mutual learning encompasses the generative dynamics of a learning relationship in which both parties are seen as having a potential to contribute, to inform and to transform in a process of exchange. This two-way process of discovery can exist in any relationship between two or more people, both inside and outside of an educational context. It is an acknowledgement that neither party holds a monopoly on knowledge and wisdom and it encourages a mutual and continual dialogue in which both parties can grow, develop, and explore their shared understanding of a topic. Mutual learning is based on the idea of co-creation and a recognition of each other's learning style.
